During our feeding in Zacobia Bamban (August 10. 2011), I saw this girl fetching water for the whole family, she has to fill all 11 buckets. It has been her daily chores and she also has to carry them back to their house.
I came up to her and asked if she would like to join the other children to attend the Bible Study and afterwards be fed. With her lowered voice, “I would love to, but I have to finish my task first before I am free to do that.” I exclaimed to her that I was willing to help her pump the water to expedite the fetching. She was so embarrassed, but I insisted. So here we are pumping water for the glory of God.
Enjoying the presence of the Lord!
I visited her again and found out that…..
Her name is Charita Salazar. She is 11 years of age and is now in 6th grade, graduating next year from elementary school. She is the second top student in her section. Charita is the eldest among her 6 siblings. One of the members of her family had already died because of sickness. Her father passed away also. Now, her mother is working alone to raise her brothers and sisters at the dumpsite area picking recycle stuffs.
Charita has to stay with her relatives to work for them so she can go to school. Fetching water is one of her chores, and that is where I met her.
